Portable suitcase tester for automotive entertainment system testing
Pioneer Electronics - http://www.pioneerelectronics.comWhen Pioneer Automotive Electronics needed a solution to emulate their factory in-line functional test at the factory of their customer, a top automotive manufacturer, they turned to Ball Systems to design a portable, durable, and comprehensive custom test solution for their application.
The Requirement:
Pioneer Automotive Electronics was required from time to time to visit its customer, a top-tier automotive manufacturer to resolve a variety of concerns on-site. Pioneer engineers would be called-in to evaluate Pioneer product on the automotive production line in order to resolve perceived quality issues, peforms sorts, or to audit product performance. They needed a comprehensive test solution that could not only emulate their own in-house, and in-line automated test environment, but was also portable and flexible enough to test an entire family of radio head units and associated components and/or options, inlcuding navigational systems, CD players, DVD players, XM tuners, amplifiers, speaker systems, and speakers.
Ball Systems’ cross-functional design team worked with Pioneer to define requirements, review past performance and/concerns, understand schedule and budgetary constraints, and review product specifications. Ball Systems engineers developed a custom suitcase tester which was not only many times more capable than prior suitcase testers, but which also provided dramatic improvements in durability, reliability, ease of use, and also flexibility across multiple product families. The resulting solution exceeded customer expecations and has even translated into improved perception of quality and attention to detail of Pioneer from its own automotive customer.
