This Veterans Day, we're thinking about the people who serve and have served, and about everything that must work when they need it. The aircraft must take off and land without incident. The ordnance that must perform exactly as designed. The flight termination unit must do its job the one time it matters.
Behind every one of those moments is equipment most people never see: the test systems, cabinets, cables, and assemblies that prove mission-critical hardware works before it ever leaves the ground.
The stuff you don't see is where we live. And in defense, the stuff you don't see has to be precise and ready.
In practice, defense build-to-print programs are anything but simple. Drawing packages can run hundreds of pages. Parts go obsolete between design and production. Specifications get revised mid-build. And every assembly must meet the same standard whether it's the first unit or the fiftieth.
A good build-to-print partner doesn't just follow the print. Before a single wire is cut, they're checking whether every part can be sourced, whether the drawings agree with each other, and whether anything on the print will cause problems on the floor.
Questions get raised during quoting, not discovered during assembly.
Building to print is the job. We make sure the print is right for every job, from prototype to repeatability.
If you're vetting a partner for a defense program, capability claims are easy to find. Proof is harder. These are the things that separate a reliable defense build-to-print manufacturer from a shop that simply has the right equipment.

Building one unit to spec proves a manufacturer can do the work. Building every unit to the same spec proves they can be trusted with the program.
As defense programs move from first article into low-rate and full-rate production, the pressure shifts. There are more units, more technicians, tighter schedules, and less room for variation. The assembly built on a Tuesday in March must match the one built on a Friday in October. Every termination, every label, every test result.
That's why repeatability matters as much as capability. It comes from controlled processes, trained people, rigorous quality inspections, and documentation that doesn't depend on someone's memory. It's also what turns an advanced design into equipment the people in the field can count on.
Precision on the first unit is expected. Precision on every unit is the job.
For 60 years, Ball Systems has manufactured electrical and electronic build-to-print systems and assemblies for programs where failure isn't an option. Our defense and aerospace work includes automated flight termination unit test systems, military ordnance test systems, legacy flight recorder test equipment, gun range test systems, and bomb armament test support.
When you bring a defense program to Ball Systems, you get:
The people who serve rarely think about the test systems and assemblies behind their equipment, and they shouldn't have to. That's our job.
To every veteran and service member: thank you. We're proud to build what stands behind you.
Ball Systems creates, develops, and delivers custom test systems and produces comprehensive build-to-print systems for companies that craft or manufacture critical electronic or electromechanical components for aerospace and defense, automotive, and consumer appliance applications.
